China has signed a G-to-G (Government to Government) agreement with Bangladesh to set up a drone manufacturing and assembly plant and transfer technology.
The agreement was signed between Bangladesh Air Force and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation International (CETC) at Air Force Headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday (January 27). Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan was present as the chief guest.
Under the agreement, the Bangladesh Air Force and CETC International will jointly set up a state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) manufacturing and assembly facility in Bangladesh, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release. These include technology transfer, capacity building, industrial-skill development and joint technical cooperation, which will help in achieving self-reliance in UAV production in the long run.
According to those concerned, such UAVs or drones will be helpful in military and civilian work as well.
According to ISPR, the Bangladesh Air Force will initially acquire the capability to produce and assemble various types of Medium Altitude Long Endurance UAVs and Vertical Take-off and Landing UAVs. Apart from military operations, these UAVs will play a significant role in humanitarian aid and disaster management.
The ISPR also said that the agreement will result in capacity expansion to achieve full self-reliance in indigenous UAV production, which will help meet national and international needs. It will also contribute significantly to national technological advancement through specialized training, knowledge sharing and building a skilled aerospace workforce.
